This weekend most of the world continued its paused state in the light of Covid restrictions. In Russia however, fresh rallies in Moscow meant thousands of people were detained by police in unauthorized protests against the arrest of Navalny. For the second weekend in a row, more than 5,000 people clashed with police closing metro stations and blocking off the city’s center. Berlin also showed its support of the cause as demonstrators held plaques and chanted slogans throughout the city center on Sunday for the release of the lawyer and democratic politician.

Demonstrations also took place in Belgium, as members of the far right protested against health measures and vaccinations, in Hamburg, with opposition of corona restrictions and the Bavarian Administrative Court, and finally in Lebanon as anger grew over a total lockdown aimed at stemming an unprecedented spike in coronavirus cases.

Further afield, in New Delhi, India, farmers who are disputing new laws gathered in solidarity. Members were seen helping in community kitchens on Sunday as the country remembered Mahatma Gandhi on the anniversary of his death.

As transfer day deadlines approach, Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford led the way for the second time in the ethics of British football. Using his voice to highlight the issues of racism in football after being one of several premier league players to have abuse directly sent to his social media accounts in the last week. Elsewhere, in Spain, Barcelona announced that they are to take legal action against the newspaper that recently published Lionel Messi’s staggering €555 237 619 earnings in his current contract with the team. In Handball, Sunday saw the Men’s World Cup final take place with Denmark lifting the trophy for the second straight time after their defeat over Sweden’s national team.
