May 1st, May Day or Labor Day. Each year in our city, Berlin turns out to the streets in what is always a revolutionary day and big event for us living here. This year, although much different with restrictions including a 10pm curfew, thousands of people pounded the streets, protesting or celebrating by the river as some life was breathed back into the capital. Reports say that over 100 police officers were injured throughout the day as protests came to ahead in the evening with fires lit and scuffles erupting in Kreuzberg and Neukolln districts.

Elsewhere in Europe, Left wing supporters marched with banners and flares through the city of Barcelona to mark May Day. In Milan, many young protesters gather at the Piazza Duomo and protests broke out across UK cities, including in Manchester, due to the proposed Police, Crime and Sentencing Bill that, if passed, will introduce new legislation around policing at protests.

As the COVID crisis in India continues, with the nation nearing 20 million cases, aid is being sent to the country from around the world. In Israel, the country’s Prime Minister Benjamin Natanyahu declared Sunday as a national day of mourning following the disaster on Thursday night that saw 45 victims killed in a stampede which took place during a festival celebrated on the eve of the Jewish holiday, Lag BaOmer in Mount Meron. People gathered at the site to light candles throughout the weekend.

Cowboys and cowgirls from Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey participated in the Crazy Faith Riders toiletry fund drive donations for the Mt. Nebo Holy Church Outreach Ministry this weekend. 8 time world horseman champion and Lynch grew up riding horses out of The Fletcher Street Stables in Philadelphia and also played himself in the Netflix release, Concrete Cowboy.

In women’s sport, FC Barcelona players celebrated after they defeated Paris Saint-Germain in their Women’s Champions League Semi-Final second leg game in the home match at Johan Cruyff Stadium. German athlete Anne Wiegold celebrated her gold medal as she won the mixed hurdles in Chorzow, Poland at this year’s World Athletics Relays.

In football, in the wake of the Super League Manchester United fans lit smoke bombs outside Old Trafford ahead of their Premier League fixture against Liverpool. Gathering in huge numbers and with the aim to hold up the game, club supporters protest the continued Glazer family ownership of the football club. In  Prague, Slavia Praha club won the Czech top football league this season again, for the third time in a row and Lionel Messi celebrated his goal during the La Liga match between Valencia CF and FC Barcelona played at Mestalla Stadium.
