Curated by our Picture Desk, we catch you up on the news and stories from across the globe. From uncovering stunning creative images, diving deep into the major news stories to the moments to remember from the sporting world.

Wednesday saw thousands of Pro-Trump supporters storm the Capitol Building in protest after the official news of him loosing the election and conceding to Joe Biden. Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election came to a dangerous head in Washington when a mob took over the building after a rally in his support.

Elsewhere, students activists of Nepal’s communist party protested against the dissolution of Parliament and there were shocking scenes from the demonstrations in Santiago, Chile on the anniversary of the death of the Mapuche community member, Camilo Catrillanca.

New restrictions again took place across the world, with countries including Germany, Spain and the UK taking further steps to curb their infection numbers. China have announced that a year after Wuhan, another city of 11 million people are to be isolated in a lock down with testing ramped up at city borders and for national travel as normality slowly returns to others.

In sport this week, Tottenham defeated Brentford 2-0, there were rumors circulating about Tom Brady’s return to the NFL ahead of the Superbowl road starting up again this weekend and 40 positive tests within the Premier League have left some matches uncertain to go ahead in the next weeks. In Naples, the inauguration of a new mural for Maradona, after the iconic player’s death in November, saw crowds gather in his memory and Manchester City’s all-time great midfielder, Colin Bell, sadly died aged 74.
