Over 2000 left-wing demonstrators marched in Friedrichshain, Berlin, this weekend to commemorate the assassinations of Communist leaders, Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht. Protests broke out as pepper spray and arrests were made by Berlin police. Elsewhere, holding candles high, Bangladesh students gathered in demonstrations demanding justice for their classmates and recent rape victims. And in Kathmandu, monarchy activists clashed with riot police during Prithvi Jayanti, a patriotic observance to celebrate the unity and birthday of Nepal’s unifier.

Indonesian search and rescue personnel and drivers from the community worked to uncover the missing Sriwijaya aircraft which crashed into the Seribu Islands Sea on Saturday after taking off from Jakarta. And in China, Sunday marked the first Chinese People’s Police Day which saw a team of special policewomen train on a plateau around 4,000 meters above sea level.

Storm Filomena was in full force this weekend as Madrid was blanketed in exceptional amounts of snow. With it described as the most intense storm in 50 years, many headed out to enjoy the snowfall, while others were left stranded in cars on motorways outside the capital and medical workers were forced to walk miles to relieve colleagues.

This weekend’s sport saw a shocking loss for Bayern Munich to Borussia Monchengladbach after loosing 2-3 at full time. In Serie A, Ronaldo helped secure Juventus a 3-1 victory over 10-man Sassuolo on Sunday. And in basketball, EWE Baskets defeated Bayreuth in their final of the Basketball Bundesliga, 80 to 73.
