After more than three weeks of defiant Truckers blocking Canada’s capital in peaceful protest, the so-called “Freedom Convoy” and its supporters faced police resistance as Ottawa police cleared a main protest site in front of parliament.


Protesting the vaccine mandate and having occupied Ottawa by camping out in its main streets, occupants have so far felt very little pushback or politicization. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared a state of national emergency, invoking the Emergencies Act for the first time in more than a half-century in Canadian history. Images of protesters resisting arrest have been published throughout the media coverage with more than 170 arrested and 38 vehicles seized. The massive crackdown continues.

Targeted with water cannons, shot at with rubber bullets and dispersed with tear gas, hundreds of people protesting in Nepal continued to oppose a $500m US grant.

The signed Millennium Challenge Corporation pact, aimed to fund infrastructure projects in 2017, has been a significant point of contention between the US and China since its inception. Groups opposing the US funding have said that it underminds the nation’s sovereignty.

Declaring his autumn winter 2022 collection as a “love letter to silhouette and craft”, the English designer showcased his continuing fascination with the golden years of Parisian haute couture.

As the Winter Olympics drew to a close, Germany enjoyed a historic clean sweep in the bobsleigh. Ending in second position on the Games leaderboard, after Norway, Germany left Beijing with a total of 12 gold medals.

Manchester United manager, Ralf Rangnick, condemned the scenes which lead to Anthony Elanga being struck by a coin from the Leeds United stand during their match on Sunday. 

The 19-year-old player was hit by an object from the crowd after Fred’s goal, making the score 3-2 in the visitor’s favor. He was unhurt and recovered to score United’s fourth goal in stoppage time.
