In yet another locked down weekend, thousands of protesters turned to looting and violence in the southern Dutch city, Eindhoven. In anti coronavirus demonstrations, condemned by the Dutch PM as “criminal”, protesters threw fireworks, looted supermarkets and attacked police in a fight disputing both the restrictions and the virus itself.

Protesters also took to the streets in Russia in the wake of  the news Alexei Navalny had been arrested upon his return to the county a week ago. Many citizens defied police in reports of unprecedented rallies in around 100 cities across the country on Saturday. Violence broke out between the public and police with people seen being dragged away and beaten by security officials. European Union foreign ministers are scheduled to meet on Monday to determine their response with calls for increased sanctions.

Belgium too saw demonstrations in the fight to stop class justice and racism in the police, after two people died in two weeks inside a police station in Brussels.

The world too learned of the sad news that broadcasting legend Larry King passed away at the age of 87 this weekend as well as the huge loss of US basketball legend, Hank Aaron with wreaths laid in his memory.

From British football, this weekend news broke of Frank Lampard’s sacking from Chelsea after his first bad run with the team in his 18 month stint. Manchester United beat rivals Liverpool in the FA Cup, leaving Liverpool with only one win out of the last seven matches. In La Liga, Barcelona won at Elche putting them now third in the competition with a goal from Frenkie de Jong. Over in the US, the Superbowl matchup was set on Sunday, in the Championship Weekend. Kansas City Chiefs are set to play Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the NFL play-offs.
