The German football Bundesliga is winding down before its winter break with some of its players heading to the FIFA World Cup starting in just 10 days. Bayern Munich who was ranked first took home a sweeping 6-1 win against Werder Bremen ranked seventh. Back in September, IMAGO’s local Berlin team 1. FC Union was ranked at the top for the first time in history – they were ranked third before last night’s match against FC Augsburg, but the 2-2 score has now brought them to second place, raising spirits for Union fans after their 5-0 loss on Sunday against Leverkusen.
Rumors that Union players Robin Knoche and Rani Khedira will be in Qatar however, proved to be false, as Germany’s new trainer Hansi Flick announced the World Cup roster just today. Eintracht Frankfurt’s astounding game and 4-2 victory in their home-stadium against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim brought them to fourth place, knocking Borussia Dortmund from their number four ranking down to six in their loss against VfL Wolfsburg 2-0.
The men’s UEFA Champions League round 16-draw last week revealed that Germany’s Bayern Munich will play Paris Saint Germain and RB Leipzig will play Manchester City in March 2023, along with FC Chelsea playing Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt playing SSC Napoli.

Over in tennis, Holger Rune beat the powerhouse Novak Djokovic in the ATP finals in Paris on Sunday, and Caroline Garcia who won the WTA finals in Fort Worth, Texas, became the second French woman after Amelie Mauresmo to win the tournament of the best eight tennis players in a season.
We have also been following the Gymnastics World Championships in Liverpool, the New York Marathon and the Major League Baseball World Series.
